1. Introducing “Low Tension Flexible Flats” Bass Strings!

    April 23, 2014 by admin

La Bella Strings is taking a new approach to flat wound bass strings. The result is the Low Tension Flexible Flats series. Using the same techniques that have made the Deep Talkin’ Bass strings the best-selling flat wounds on the market, La Bella has adjusted the construction to create a lighter and more flexible alternative to the classic heavier flats.

The Low Tension Flexible Flats deliver the same classic sound but without a floppy-string effect associated with other light tension flat wound strings. These hand-wound and hand-polished strings are equipped with round cores for flexibility and narrower ribbon wire to achieve that unrivaled smooth feeling uniquely characteristic to La Bella Strings.

La Bella’s Low Tension Flexible Flats are now available in 4-String (LTF-4A) and 5-String (LTF-5A) models.

    LFT-4A Low Tension Flexible Flats
    4-String, .042, .056, .070, .100
    Total Tension: 134.9lbs (61.19kg)

    LTF-5A Low Tension Flexible Flats
    5-String, .042, .056, .070, .100, .118
    Total Tension: 163.2lbs (74.03kg)

As the innovators of today’s best-selling double bass sets for Jazz, La Bella Strings is proud to introduce its newly revamped Double Bass Nylon Tape Wound Series and announce the release of the 7710T White Nylon Tape Wound Set.

Developed alongside Ron Carter and Attila Zoller, the double bass tape wound strings capture the rich tone of gut and sustain of steel, all without the headaches of gut and overly metallic sound of chrome. The result is a one-of-a-kind formulation and construction, ideal for Jazz pizzicato and particularly solos. The Double Bass Nylon Tape Wound Series’ new packaging evokes the classic Jazz album covers of the 1950s and 1960s.

The original 7710 Black Nylon Tape Wound Double Bass set will now be referred to as the 7710N Black Nylon Tape Wound Set sold under the newly revamped packaging. The construction will remain the same, as it has been for over thirty years.

La Bella Strings is proud to introduce the new 7710T White Nylon Tape Wound, which takes the nylon tape construction to a whole new level. Unlike the 7710N Black Nylon Tape Wound Set, the 7710T strings are wound with a clear proprietary nylon to create an even smoother-to-the-touch string with brighter tone and clarity than the original 7710N strings.

As with all La Bella double bass sets, the standard double bass set is ¾ size. Both the 7710T and 7710N are available in ¼, ½, and 4/4 sizes, and also for Ampeg BB1 Baby Bass (Ampeg is a registered trademark of St. Louis Music). Optional High “C”, Low “C” and Low “C” in Extended Scale are also available.

  3. La Bella Introduces Olinto Electric Bass

    November 5, 2012 by admin

La Bella Strings, America’s oldest continuously family-owned and operated string manufacturer, has teamed up with trusted friend and master luthier Mas Hino to create a line of handcrafted vintage-style basses. For decades, La Bella Strings have graced the basses of the finest musicians in modern recording history. After years of working with world-famous luthiers in developing cutting-edge strings, La Bella feels the natural next step is to introduce a bass that equally embodies the vintage tone that put La Bella on the map.

Named after our company’s founder, each Olinto bass is individually handcrafted by master bass and guitar builder, Mas Hino. Based out of a New York City’s Lower East Side, Hino shapes each body by hand, working with only the finest cuts of wood. Bringing years of experience and knowledge to the table, Hino is able to make La Bella’s vision into a reality—a vintage-style bass equally as handcrafted as its vintage-style strings.

It has been documented that players like James Jamerson, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Bob Babbit, and Pino Paladino all relied on La Bella Flat Wound strings to achieve a legendary tone. Over the years, there have been certain basses that together with our strings, created a fusion of sound quite like no other. Today, La Bella makes both the strings and now the basses to create that perfect sonic marriage.

La Bella debuted the Olinto at Bass Player Live 2012 and it was a big hit! Now we are eager to share our handmade vintage-style basses with the rest of the world! Our handmade Olinto bass is available to purchase directly through our website! Check out the detailed specs and choose from Sunburst, Olympic White, Black and Natural finish. Order yours now!
