Sung-ho Chang is today’s leading classical guitarist in Korea. He studied in Spain, Madrid at the Royal Conservatory of Music where he was awarded numerous international guitar competitions and master classes such as Andres Segovia, Alberto Ponce, Ile de France. His guitar has taken him on numerous tours to Europe where he continues to perform many concerts, master classes and workshops, such as a performance with D. Russell who is one of the three guitarists in the World Lichtenstein Ligita Guitar Festival.
Chang is a regular performer at principal Korean venues and has played with many great Korean artists and orchestras including the KBS Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, Koyang Philharmonic Orchestra, and more. In 2003, Sung-ho has recorded two acclaimed CDs: Paganini and Spanish Heart.
Chang had a recital tour with Aranjuez Concerto, which was broadcasted on FM radio. He is the first Korean artist to be awarded the great culture medal of Isabel La Catolica by the King of Spain, Juan Carlos II, in honor of performing Spanish guitar music. Sung-ho embraces a wide repertoire and has developed a keen interesting in bringing great music to guitar.
In 2004, Chang performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto Op. 61 on guitar on tour in Korea. We received the title of the most performed artist in Korea and ‘Edu-Concert for Guitar with commentary athe The Kumho Asiana Art Foundation.
Chang is currently a teaching professor at KNUA (Korea National University of the Arts).
