George Walker Petit is a musician, composer, recording engineer and record producer currently working and living in Stowe, Vermont. Active in the music business for the better part of 40 years, Petit played his first ‘gigs’ at the age of 13 on the London Pub circuit…and before that, as a young musician at Carnegie Hall and The Palace Theater on Broadway in New York City. In addition he has produced and/or engineered over 100 cd’s to date with releases in many countries. Petit has three cd’s as a leader. The fourth is pending. All cd’s have been extremely well reviewed by jazz publications such as JazzTimes, Allaboutjazz.com, Downbeat, etc.
 
Over the years, Petit has performed at Jazz Festivals and Clubs with his groups in the USA, Europe and Brazil…sharing stages with, or opening for the likes of McCoy Tyner, John Scofield, Joe Henderson, James Carter, Betty Carter, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, and Brian Blade.
 
Petit has engineered/mixed and produced in the neighborhood of 100 recordings in NYC and Brazil that have included a long list of top musicians and composers such as: Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Will Lee, George Whitty, Terrence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Jeff Ballard, Dafnis Prieto, Anthony Wilson, Cyrus Chestnut, Carl Allen, Donny McCaslin, Gene Bertoncini, Seamus Blake, Allison Miller, Alan Ferber, Ryan Keberle, Jon Davis, Phil Palombi, Matt Brewer, Mark Ferber, Mike Clark, Hans Glawischnig, Don Alias, Mark Whitfield, Yaniel Matos, Ugonna Okegwo, Quincy Davis, Jimmy Ponder, Onaje Allen Gumbs, Victor Lewis, Steve Hass, Edu Ribeiro, Thiago Espirito Santo, Ricardo Paula Lima, Portinho, Cuca Texeira, Yosvani Terry.
 
In addition, Petit has composed music for film, television and radio, for advertising, special project documentaries and adventure video projects. He has received four TELLY awards for original music and sound design in advertising. Recently he composed the score for a ‘short’ film, THE DRUMMER. The film has been screened at eight Film Festivals, and has won ‘best in show’ at all eight.
 
George Petit attended Trinity School in New York City, The Haberdasher’s Aske School in England, Aiglon College in Switzerland, Vassar College in New York and The Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. He teaches master classes in production and studio etiquette, and lectures for Solid State Logic. Petit has recently been traveling to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he has been training an engineering and production staff at a new state-of-the-art recording facility. Petit also writes articles and reviews for Mix Magazine, Sonicscoop.com, SPL, Rupert Neve Design, Grado, SSL and others.
